About the Artist
Artistic Origins
Artist Statement: Clay is my medium because it remembers. Malleable in its raw state, yet hardened by fire into permanence, it mirrors the universe’s cyclical nature: infinitely recyclable, yet irrevocably changed, much like the emotional and spiritual transformations I explore in my work.
My practice navigates the intersection of psychological vulnerability, religious symbolism, and material transformation. Drawing from my background in studio art and theology, I create immersive installations that confront mental illness, emotional decay, and the cycles of life and death. My work is intentionally provocative—designed to disturb, intrigue, and invite reflection.
I incorporate medieval Christian iconography—halos, lambs, gold leaf, cruciforms—into contemporary narratives of psychological struggle. Once used to sanctify, these symbols are reimagined to critique societal expectations, confront trauma, and reclaim spiritual agency.
My use of clay and found materials reflects a deep connection to the earth and to creation myths, particularly those in which humanity is formed from dust or mud. This materiality grounds a process that is intuitive, emotionally charged, and shaped by my lived experience with obsessive-compulsive disorder—a condition that mirrors the cycles of repetition and rupture central to my work.
I construct environments that are both sacred and desecrated, inviting viewers to confront discomfort, question permanence, and witness transformation. My work navigates the thresholds between the beautiful and the grotesque, the holy and the profane, the personal and the universal.
Through these tensions, I aim to cultivate moments of reflection, rupture, and renewal.
